For many people, storage is a major consideration when embarking on a bathroom renovation. Sometimes, a space simply isn't large enough to hold a bathroom vanity that has ample space for makeup, medications, soaps, shampoos, toilet paper, toothpaste and the many other personal hygiene and beauty items needed on a daily basis.
While linen closets often provide extra storage space, some choose to eliminate their closets in favor of an overall larger space. In addition, many who preserve their storage closets often prefer to have their often-used items closer at hand.
Design experts from HGTV say shelves can help keep items neatly organized and within reach. Empty walls over the toilet and above the showerhead are ideal spaces to add storage. Some even recommend constructing built-in shelving between wall studs.
"We've done doors on a wall in the bathroom where you open it up and basically build a cabinet that fits in between the studs in the wall," bathroom design expert Thompson Price told HGTV.com.
Keeping shelves neat and tidy once they're installed is easy with some basic storage items such as baskets, bowls and jars.
